The main tasks of political censorship during the Great Patriotic War (by the materials of the Glavlit of the Mordovian ASSR)

Background. Currently, there are voices calling for the need to return censorship restrictions to the information space, which indicates the interest that has arisen on the part of Russian civil society in this problem. The purpose of the study is to analyze the main tasks that political censorship faced during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945) using the example of the activities of the Glavlit of the Mordovian ASSR. Materials and methods. The main source for the study of the topic was archival documents stored in the Central State Archive of the Republic of Mordovia. As a methodological basis for the study were taken problem-chronological, quantitative methods. Results. The key tasks facing political censorship during the difficult period of wartime are studied. The main problems solved by the leadership of the Glavlit of the Mordovian ASSR are considered. Conclusions. The tasks of political cen-sorship for the period of wartime formulated in official documents obligated the chief brailites to strictly follow the outlined course. The most important of them is to prevent the media from disclosing information that harms the state security of the country. The manage-ment had to solve the tasks facing the department in conditions of a minimum of funding and personnel “hunger”.
